Mount Carmel Health System’s ongoing investigation into a former intensive-care doctor has revealed that he ordered excessive doses of painkillers for seven additional near-death patients, bringing the total to at least 34, administrators told The Dispatch on Thursday.
That number, they said, is expected to grow as investigators further examine the work of Dr. William Husel, who was removed from patient care on Nov. 21 and fired two weeks later…
Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost on Thursday called on the State Medical Board of Ohio to immediately suspend Husel’s license and asked the Ohio Department of Medicaid to terminate the doctor’s ability to provide services to Medicaid patients. He also offered to help in O’Brien’s investigation.
A spokeswoman for the medical board said she could not disclose investigative information. A Department of Medicaid spokesman said options are being reviewed with Yost, who serves as the agency’s legal counsel, and that the department verified that Husel is not serving Medicaid patients.
