Ohio joined 45 other states, the District of Columbia and Guam Wednesday in a national lawsuit against Facebook Inc., alleging an illegal monopoly on the country’s social networking market.
Republican Attorney General Dave Yost said in an emailed statement that Facebook’s “unchecked power has grabbed an alarming level of control over what we see, say, buy and even who our friends are. It is a dangerous seduction where we, as consumers, have become the product for Facebook by controlling so many aspects of our lives.”
The 123-page litigation, filed in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, alleges Facebook and company founder and chief executive officer Mark Zuckerberg “has chilled innovation, deterred investment, and forestalled competition in the markets in which it operates, and it continues to do so.”
