COLUMBUS, Ohio–Ohio Republicans on Wednesday urged U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown to rethink his opposition to Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch and allow a Senate confirmation vote.
“There’s an old proverb that says a fool judges a matter before he’s heard it,” said state Auditor Dave Yost, a candidate for attorney general in 2018. “And I’m calling on Sen. Sherrod Brown to rescind his original position, to have an open mind, and judge this matter on the merits.”
Last month, Brown pledged to oppose Gorsuch’s candidacy, declaring President Donald Trump’s nominee to be “far outside of the judicial mainstream” with rulings that deem corporations are people, are hostile toward anti-discrimination and criminal justice protections, and oppose women’s rights to basic healthcare at places like Planned Parenthood.
